Hopevale - History and Culture
Wanhtharra nyundu! Welcome to Guugu Yimithirr country! Hopevale (Dyuubi) and Elim Beach (Thiithaarr) are on Guugu Yimithirr country, a tribal nation which stretched from the River Annan, south of Cooktown, to Princess Charlotte Bay in the north.
The Hope Vale Arts & Cultural Centre is at the heart of Guugu Yimithirr culture and actively involves Aboriginal people of all ages in passing on the cultural traditions and promoting the use and teaching of the Guugu Yimithirr language, which is alive and spoken daily by many local people.
Learn from one of the world's most ancient civilisations as they take you walkabout through the country of their ancestors.
Now listed as One of Australia's Ultimate Must-Do Experiences, these magical, award-winning rock art tours are in the company of Nugal-warra Elder and story-keeper, Willie Gordon.
