This journey is an alternate route in to Lockhart. It connects with the Bamaga Access Road/Telegraph Track near the road coming across from Weipa, through Batavia Downs (see map), so could be considered a short cut, but it has two challenging crossings at the Pascoe and Wenlock Rivers which can be very difficult if the water is high. It is 62km to join the Portland Roads Road near Mount Bowden. For those not wanting to do “Frenchmans”, try the 11km drive into the Pascoe River from the Portland Roads Road end. The rugged track has some very rough and boggy sections before the deep, challenging Pascoe River crossing. The exit at Pascoe River is quite steep and rocky providing a challenge at times.
