Cape York and the Torres Strait are Australia’s gateway to New Guinea and Indonesia and are major potential gateway for Pests and Diseases entering Australia.
Cape York has an important role in Australia’s biosecurity. Please remember to be aware of this when it comes to bringing home items with you from the Cape.
There is an inspection station at Coen and all southbound traffic must report their fruit and vegetables. Suspect items and all mangoes will be confiscated for quarantine. There are also restrictions on bringing foodstuffs from the Torres Strait to Cape York.
